How are my donations to Aeon and Psyche used?

Aeon and Psyche Magazines are owned by Aeon Media Group, a registered charity committed to the spread of knowledge and a humane, cosmopolitan worldview. As a donor, you help us to pay our writers, filmmakers and editors, and keep the site free of intrusive ads. Most of all, your support allows us to keep on doing what we do: freely sharing our Essays, Ideas, Guides and Videos.

Are donations to Aeon and Psyche tax deductible?

Yes, both recurring supporter donations and one-time donations made by US and Australian taxpayers are tax deductible.

Donations made to Aeon America Inc (EIN 81-3741044), which is tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code in the US, are tax-deductible to US taxpayers. You will receive a tax receipt from Aeon America Inc.

Donations made to Aeon Media Group Ltd – Gift Fund (ABN 80 612 076 614), which is listed on the Australian Government’s Register of Cultural Organisations, and endorsed as a deductible gift recipient, are tax-deductible to Australian taxpayers. You will receive a tax receipt from Aeon Media Group Ltd – Gift Fund. Donations above A$2 are tax-deductible.

Is Aeon a 501(c)(3)?

Is Aeon a DGR organisation in Australia?

Yes – please see above.

Can I donate through my employer-matching scheme or donor-advised fund?

Yes, we welcome employer-matched donations and grants through donor-advised funds. If you prefer to donate via other charity portals, please drop us a line at support@aeon.co to let us know. There are many charity portals, and we are not registered on all of them.

What exchange rate will I pay on my US dollar donation?

If your card currency is not US dollars, the amount charged to your credit card will be converted to your local currency by your credit card provider at an exchange rate set by the provider.

Can I donate in another currency?

What cards do you accept?

You can donate using Visa, MasterCard, AMEX, JCB, Discover, and Diners Club, or simply use PayPal.

What about security?

Will I be charged fees on my donation?

Neither Aeon nor its payment gateways, Stripe or PayPal, charges fees to you. We pay any receiving fees imposed on us by our payment gateways. If any fees do appear, these will be from your particular bank or credit-card provider, and we suggest contacting them for more information.

What will appear on my credit card statement?

Donations to Aeon and Psyche will appear on your credit card statements as ‘Aeon Media donation’. Some payment providers may list the company name instead, which is ‘Aeon America Inc’ or ‘Aeon Media Group’ (for Australian donors).

What if I think a charge has been made in error?

If you believe a charge was made in error, we encourage you to contact us first at support@aeon.co to resolve it quickly and arrange a refund if appropriate. Disputes lodged with your financial provider can result in charges to Aeon, which can be costly for a charity.

How can I change or cancel my monthly or annual donation?

If you would like to change or cancel your ongoing credit card donation, you can do this directly from your user account by clicking on the ‘donations’ tab on your profile page. Alternatively, contact us at support@aeon.co. If you would like to change or cancel your ongoing donation via PayPal, simply log in to your PayPal account. If you have any questions, please contact PayPal support.

I don’t want to use a credit card online or PayPal. Can I send a cheque or donate another way?

No. We accept only online donations.

I didn’t create a password. Can I save and annotate articles?

No. Entering a password when prompted completes the set-up of your user account which is the way you access the special onsite features such as save and annotate articles, commenting and manage your account. Please note that saving is available on both Aeon and Psyche, but annotation is currently only available on Aeon.
