As someone has already suggested, I think the question is not so much whether Apollo should be shut down - it was getting to the end of its natural life - but whether, to all intents and purposes human exploration should be shut down. To that I think the world (we can’t just say the US) has made a mistake. It’s not about science, really - usually unmanned is cheaper and more effective for that - it’s more about the future of humanity.
