I am a life-span developmental psychologist with a particular focus on adolescence and early adulthood. I study the self-regulatory actions people use to manage volatility. My primary research involves exploring the use and usefulness of backup plans - alternative means to an end that a person develops but may or may not ever use. I also study the ways people produce their own positive development from unexpected, positive events. I have termed these behaviors serendipitous actions.
