Gemma McKenzie is a postdoctoral fellow at the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery and Palliative Care at King’s College London. Her research explores obstetric violence and the social standards of so-called ‘good’ mothering that pregnant women are subjected to. She is working on a public engagement project called Threads of Protest that highlights human rights in childbirth via the use of crochet and the idea of yarnbombing.
