Thank you so much for these responses. As I note in the article and in my book, I agree that sex identity is socially and personally important and relevant. Given that it’s mutable and subject to personal change, does it make sense for goverments to keep track of our personal sex identities? If so, then why? I think we need to answer this question in order to justify the bureaucratic custom.
