Holly Grout is an associate professor at the University of Alabama. She is the author of The Force of Beauty: Transforming French Ideas of Femininity in the Third Republic (2015). She is currently working on her second book, provisionally ‘Playing Cleopatra: Inventing the Female Celebrity in Third Republic France’.
