James Kennedy

James Kennedy is a VCE chemistry teacher at Haileybury in Victoria. In 2013, he published the Ingredients of an All-Natural Banana poster series with the aim of eroding the fear that many people have of ‘chemicals’. He also started a blog and outreach effort to convey the message that nature evolves compounds, mechanisms and structures far more complicated and unpredictable than anything we can produce in the lab. He uses infographics to illustrate the chemical makeup of familiar fruits and vegetables. The posters he made for his students as a visual introduction to his organic chemistry course have created a buzz with more than 700,000 views via his blog and millions more views via social media.
