Joel Mokyr is the Robert H Strotz Professor of Arts and Sciences and professor of economics and history at Northwestern University in Illinois. In 2006, he was awarded the biennial Heineken Award for History offered by the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences; in 2015, he was awarded the Balzan International Prize for economic history; and in 2025 he was awarded the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. His books include A Culture of Growth: Origins of the Modern Economy (2016) and Two Paths to Prosperity: Culture and Institutions in Europe and China, 1000-2000 (2025).
