Sophie Chao is a Eurasian (French and Chinese) environmental anthropologist and environmental humanities scholar interested in the intersections of capitalism, ecology, Indigeneity, health, and justice in the Pacific. She is a DECRA fellow and lecturer at the University of Sydney, working and living on unceded Gadigal lands. Prior to her academic career, Chao worked for the Indigenous rights organisation Forest Peoples Programme in the United Kingdom and Indonesia. She is the author of In the Shadow of the Palms: More-Than-Human Becomings in West Papua (Duke University Press, 2022).
