Jim Downs is the Andrew W Mellon New Directions Fellow at Harvard University and an associate professor of history at Connecticut College. His latest book is Stand by Me: The Forgotten History of Gay Liberation (2016), and he has written for Time, The Huffington Post and The New York Times, among others.
