As a physician, I’m highly empathetic to these ideas in general. I am hugely in favor of liberalizing drug laws, sponsoring more medical research, and providing resources to help addicts recover rather than penalize them (see Portugal). I understand you’re making a broad point about our miscategorization of drugs in general, and it’s a point that needs to be made. However, we also need to be intelligent about the varying risks associated with individual substances. I don’t think you meant to suggest we use prescription opioids for depression, but your words read as though you might.
